MLS: D.C. United at Nashville SC

Substitute Warren Madrigal notched his third and fourth goals of the season, helping host Nashville SC rally from a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw against 10-man D.C. United on Saturday night.

Andy Najar played a key role in both of Madrigal’s strikes, providing the assist on the 89th-minute equalizer and delivering a crucial pass for the first goal, which came shortly after D.C. defender Silvan Hefti was sent off in the 75th minute for a second yellow card.

The result allowed the Coyotes (7-1-3, 24 points) to avoid their first home league loss, though they dropped points at Geodis Park for the first time in five regular-season matches.

Louis Munteanu scored his fourth goal in three games for D.C. (4-4-4, 16 points), extending the club’s league unbeaten streak to five matches. Lucas Bartlett added his first MLS goal since 2024, putting the Black-and-Red ahead while both sides were at full strength.

However, the match turned immediately after Hefti’s dismissal. Madrigal’s first goal came moments later when Matthew Corcoran chested down Najar’s entry pass into the right side of the box, turned, and fired a shot that forced Sean Johnson into a sprawling save. The rebound fell to Madrigal, who tapped into an open net from close range to make it 2-1.

Madrigal’s second goal was of higher quality. He controlled Najar’s early cross with his chest at the top of the penalty area, then struck a first-time volley into the bottom corner, leaving Johnson with no chance. Madrigal had entered the match in the 62nd minute, replacing Alex Muyl.

Munteanu opened the scoring in the 25th minute, reaching Hefti’s dipping cross from the right at the far post and guiding a header past Brian Schwake into the bottom left corner. Bartlett doubled the lead eight minutes later from a corner, rising to meet Keisuke Kurokawa’s inswinging delivery and powering a header between Schwake and the right post.

The goal was initially ruled offside, but referee Randy Encarnacion awarded it after a video review determined that Jared Stroud, though in an offside position, had not interfered with Schwake’s ability to make a save.
