La Liga president Javier Tebas has opened up about the ongoing battle against racism and discrimination in Spanish football, highlighting a significant shift in fan behavior over recent years.

According to the executive, the attitude of supporters toward such incidents has changed noticeably. “In the past, the majority of fans preferred to stay silent and cover up these cases. Now, people in the stands are themselves pointing out racists, xenophobes, and other intolerant fans,” Tebas stated in an interview with El Financiero.

The La Liga chief emphasized that Spanish football has been fighting against hate-driven behavior both inside and outside stadiums for many years. “We have achieved a change in mindset in Spain. Now, most fans cooperate with us to get rid of people who do not belong in the stadiums,” he added.

Tebas also stressed that La Liga applies sanctions to clubs and holds match organizers responsible for fan conduct from the moment they leave home until they return after the game.

The fight against racism in Spanish football has become one of the most pressing topics in recent years, following several high-profile incidents involving insults directed at players during La Liga matches. These cases have drawn increased attention to the need for stronger measures and greater accountability across the sport.
