Esther Gómez, a nurse and health educator, appeared on the RTVE program “La Revuelta” hosted by David Broncano on Tuesday, May 12, to discuss the recent hantavirus outbreak on the cruise ship MV Hondius. While acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, she offered a balanced perspective.

When asked by Broncano about the outbreak, Gómez stated: “I don’t know what will happen. It’s something dangerous, and we need to pay attention to official sources. But I also think we obsess over it.” She urged the public to stay informed but avoid unnecessary panic.

Later in the interview, Gómez highlighted the importance of stool tests for colorectal cancer detection. She shared a humorous anecdote: “You only need a sample the size of a hazelnut. Some people bring excessive amounts. One patient left the container in his car on a hot summer day, not properly closed, and it exploded.”
Gómez specializes in out-of-hospital emergencies and urgent care, with additional training in wound healing and oncology patient care. She also leads an AI training project for healthcare professionals and published the book *”From Head to Toe: The Most Complete Guide to Taking Care of Your Health”* in 2023.
