Renowned American tennis coach Rick Macci shared his thoughts on young American star Coco Gauff, praising her rare competitive spirit and athletic gifts.
“Coco has the heart of a lion. She is unique in so many ways — the fastest and best all-around athlete on the entire tour. She wins through her God-given talents,” Macci wrote on social media.
He also analyzed Gauff’s serve, noting that while her biomechanics have improved in several areas, the only real solution to her double-fault issues is a complete rebuild of muscle memory — from the take-back to the stance position. “I have no doubt that her serve will eventually become her best friend instead of occasionally turning into her worst nightmare,” he added.
Macci’s comments come after Gauff’s strong start to the 2024 season, where she continues to establish herself as a consistent contender at Grand Slam events. The former coach of Serena Williams and other greats emphasized that Gauff’s mental toughness sets her apart from many competitors.
“She has the heart of a champion. The lion inside her will roar louder as she matures,” Macci concluded.
