Spartak Moscow secured a 2-1 victory over Rubin Kazan in their home match of the 29th round of the Russian Premier League (RPL), keeping their chances of finishing third alive.
Christopher Wu opened the scoring in the 4th minute, and Pablo Solari doubled the lead in the 60th minute. Rubin pulled one back through Aleksandar Jukic in the 90+3rd minute, but it was too late to salvage a result.
The defeat ended Rubin’s nine-match unbeaten run in the league (five wins, four draws). Their previous loss came in late February, falling 1-2 to Makhachkala Dynamo in Round 19.
Spartak now sit fourth in the RPL table with 51 points, trailing Lokomotiv (53), Krasnodar (63), and Zenit (65). Rubin remain seventh with 42 points.
In the final round on May 17, Spartak will travel to face Makhachkala Dynamo, while Rubin host Pari Nizhny Novgorod at home.
